NATIONAL CRIME SURVEY DATA FROM 26 AMERICAN CITIES ARE USED IN THIS REPORT TO EXAMINE RAPE AND ATTEMPTED RAPE VICTIMIZATION.
Abstract
RATES OF RAPE AND ATTEMPTED RAPE VICTIMIZATION WITHIN AGE, RACE, MARITAL STATUS, MAJOR ACTIVITY, AND INCOME CATEGORIES ARE REPORTED. THE REPORT ALSO EXAMINES A NUMBER OF CHARACTERISTICS AND CONSEQUENCES OF RAPE AND ATTEMPTED RAPE VICTIMIZATION, INCLUDING TIME AND PLACE OF OCCURRENCE, OFFENDER CHARACTERISTICS, WEAPON USE, THEFT, INJURY, THE USE OF SELF-PROTECTIVE MEASURES BY RAPE VICTIMS, AND THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE RAPE AND ATTEMPTED RAPE REPORTED IN THE SURVEYS WERE ALSO REPORTED TO THE POLICE.
