ADVICE FOR FATHERS ON EFFECTIVE CHILD REARING IS PRESENTED IN AN EFFORT TO PREVENT CHILD ABUSE THROUGH PARENT EDUCATION.
Abstract
INTENDED FOR GENERAL READERSHIP, THIS BOOKLET'S PURPOSE IS TO PREVENT CHILD ABUSE BY FATHERS WHO WERE THEMSELVES ABUSED AS CHILDREN BY EXPLAINING THE REASONS FOR CHILD BEHAVIOR AND SHOWING HOW PERSUASION, RATHER THAN EXCESSIVE DISCIPLINE, LEADS TO HARMONIOUS DOMESTIC RELATIONS. THE MAIN ASPECTS OF EFFECTIVE PARENTING ARE EXPLAINED WITH POINTERS ON HOW TO (1) UNDERSTAND WHY CHILDREN BEHAVE AS THEY DO, (2) BE A HUMAN BEING FIRST, A FATHER SECOND, (3) DETERMINE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACCEPTABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR FOR CHILDREN, (4) BE HONEST WITH CHILDREN, (5) COMMUNICATE WITH CHILDREN AT ALL TIMES AND NOT TO KEEP THEM GUESSING, AND (6) UNDERSTAND THAT A STRICT DISCIPLINARIAN CAN FORCE OBEDIENCE ON SMALL CHILDREN, BUT IS BOUND TO FAIL WITH ADOLESCENTS. FINALLY, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT FAMILY CONFLICTS BE SOLVED BY COMPROMISE, SO THAT THERE ARE NO LOSERS AND NO BITTER FEELINGS. --IN SPANISH. (GLR)
