THIS MANUAL LISTS PROCEDURES TO BE USED IN RADIO AND TELEPHONE COMMUNICATIONS BY KENTUCKY POLICE AGENCIES AND DESCRIBES STATE AND NATIONAL COMPUTERIZED CRIMINAL JUSTICE INFORMATION SYSTEMS.
Abstract
EACH OF THE MANUAL'S FIVE TABULATED SECTIONS DISCUSSES A DIFFERENT ASPECT OF COMMUNICATIONS PROCEDURES. FIRST, THE POLICE RADIO SERVICE'S RESPONSIBILITIES, PERSONNEL QUALIFICATIONS, AND DISPATCHING TECHNIQUES ARE DESCRIBED. SECOND, TELEPHONE TECHNIQUES ARE EXPLAINED INCLUDING BASIC TECHNIQUES AND MEANS OF ACQUIRING, EDITING, ORGANIZING, AND TRANSLATING INFORMATION. THE THIRD SECTION PRESENTS NUMEROUS DISPATCHING AIDS, INCLUDING THE PHONETIC ALPHABET, PRONUNCIATION OF NUMBERS, THE CYMBALS SYSTEM FOR DESCRIBING VEHICLES, AND THE APCO-10 SIGNALS FOR CONDENSING INFORMATION. FOURTH, PREFERRED TERMINOLOGY FOR FREQUENTLY USED WORDS, PROCEDURES FOR BROADCASTS FOR WANTED PERSONS, AND SEQUENCES FOR OTHER STANDARD BROADCASTS ARE COVERED. THE LAST SECTION DESCRIBES COMPUTERIZED INFORMATION SYSTEMS, INCLUDING THE IBM 3767 COMMUNICATION TERMINAL, THE LAW INFORMATION NETWORK OF KENTUCKY, THE NATIONAL CRIME INFORMATION CENTER, AND THE NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT TELECOMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM.
