A 1978 STATISTICAL SUMMARY IS PROVIDED OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE OMAHA POLICE DIVISION (NEBRASKA).
Abstract
ACCORDING TO THE STATISTICS PRESENTED, MAJOR CRIME IN OMAHA, NEBR., DECREASED 3 PERCENT FROM 1977, MAKING 1978 THE FOURTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR TO SHOW A DECLINE. PERSONNEL INCREASED FROM 529 SWORN OFFICERS IN DECEMBER 1977 TO 563 SWORN PERSONNEL IN DECEMBER 1978. THE NUMBER OF POLICE CARS ASSIGNED TO CITIZEN REQUESTS FOR POLICE SERVICE INCREASED ABOUT 1 PERCENT FOR 1978 OVER 1977, MAKING A TOTAL OF 210,084 DISPATCHES OF REQUESTED POLICE SERVICE FOR THE YEAR. REPORTED STATISTICS COVER EXPENDITURES, FEDERAL ACTION, AND OTHER GRANTS. THE NUMERICAL STRENGTH OF PERSONNEL FOR THE YEAR IS TABULATED, AS ARE OF A COMPARISON OF RANK AND FILE OF PERSONNEL WITH 4 PREVIOUS YEARS, ASSIGNMENT OF PERSONNEL, AND ASSIGNMENT OF VEHICLES AND NUMBER OF MILES DRIVEN. FURTHER FIGURES REPRESENT OFFICERS ASSAULTED AND CIRCUMSTANCES; PART I CRIMES; ADULT AND JUVENILE ARRESTS BY RACE, AGE, AND SEX; REQUESTS FOR SPECIAL ATTENTION; TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES OVER THE LAST 5 YEARS; A STANDARD SUMMARY OF NEBRASKA MOTOR VEHICLE TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS; AND CRIMINALISTICS ACTIVITIES. FINALLY, THE EDUCATIONAL ACHIEVEMENT OF THE DIVISION IS DOCUMENTED. AN ANNUAL REPORT IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR THE COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF SAFETY. (RCB)
