PART OF A PREEMPLOYMENT TRAINING CURRICULUM PACKAGE FOR EX-OFFENDERS, THIS UNIT ASSISTS THE STUDENT IN IDENTIFYING REASONS FOR GETTING AND KEEPING A JOB.
Abstract
USING STRAIGHTFORWARD AND CLEAR EXPLANATIONS, SUPPLEMENTED WITH ILLUSTRATIONS, IT PRESENTS BASIC AND COMPELLING REASONS FOR AN EX-OFFENDER TO WORK AT A REGULAR, SALARIED JOB. POSITIVE REASONS FOR WORKING INCLUDE RECEIVING A REGULAR SALARY, SATISFYING CONDITIONS FOR RELEASE, MAKING NEW AND BETTER FRIENDS, FULFILLING ADULT RESPONSIBILITIES, BUILDING SELF-CONFIDENCE, AND BEING RESPECTED. ALSO, A JOB PROVIDES THE MATERIAL MEANS TO WORK TOWARD PERSONAL GOALS, WITHOUT FEAR OF BEING CAUGHT. A REGULAR SALARY ALLOWS A PERSON TO WORK TOWARDS GETTING A NEW CAR OR A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE, AS WELL AS HELPING ONE'S FAMILY TO ENJOY A BETTER LIFE. THE MOST BASIC REASON IS THAT HAVING A 'STRAIGHT' JOB IS THE BEST WAY TO ENSURE THAT A PERSON WILL STAY OUT OF JAIL IN THE FUTURE. THE BOOKLET INCLUDE A TEST AND A WORD LIST.
