Abstract

CRIME PREVENTION ACTIVITIES, INVESTIGATIVE WORK, AND RELATED AREAS ARE REPORTED BOTH FOR THE TOTAL ORGANIZATION AND FOR EACH OF THE DEPARTMENT'S 16 PRECINCTS. THE ORGANZATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE DEPARTMENT DURING THE YEAR ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. REPORTED OFFENSES DECLINED FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. A TOTAL OF 114,002 PART I OFFENSES WERE REPORTED TO THE POLICE; OF THESE, 20,860 WERE CLEARED BY ARREST. IN THE PREVIOUS 4 YEARS, TOTAL PART I OFFENSES RANGED FROM 126,835 TO 159,833. DUE TO BUDGET LIMITS, THE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO CONTINUE TO HIRE POLICE OFFICERS BUT MORALE REMAINED HIGH. SPECIAL EVENTS DURING THE YEAR INCLUDED THE ANNUAL PICNIC FOR CRIPPLED CHILDREN, PURCHASE OF A GOVERNMENT SURPLUS AIRPLANE, TRADING OF EQUIPMENT WITH THE DETROIT FIRE DEPARTMENT, AND INITIATION OF CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW WAYNE COUNTY JAIL.
