Abstract
THE BUREAU OF CORRECTIONS CHARTED INMATE POPULATON DATA BY INSTITUTION, MONTH, AND YEAR. ADMISSIONS FIGURES WERE OBTAINED FROM MONTHLY MOVEMENT REPORTS, AS WERE RELEASE FIGURES. AGE OF OFFENDER, SEX, RACE, COUNTY OF COMMITMENT, TOTAL OPERATING BUDGETS, EXPENDITURES, REVENUES, AND PROBATION AND PAROLE DATA ARE PRESENTED. EXTENSIVE POPULATION PROJECTION DATA WERE ANALYZED FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERMINING HIGH RISK POPULATIONS AND FUTURE INMATE POPULATIONS. IN 1972, THE AVERAGE DAILY POPULATION OF KENTUCKY'S CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS WAS 3,186; IN 1976 IT INCREASED TO 3,644. THE KENTUCKY STATE REFORMATORY HOUSED APPROXIMATELY 1,685 INMATES INCARCERATED IN 1976, THE KENTUCKY STATE PENITENTIARY ABOUT 1,184. MONTLY ADMISSIONS TO ALL CORRECTIONAL INSTIUTIONS AVERAGED 171 IN 1972 AND 238.7 IN 1976. TOTAL ADMISSIONS FOR WOMEN OFFENDERS TOTALED 112 IN 1972 AND 151 IN 1976. DIRECT COMMITMENTS ACCOUNTED FOR THE MAJORITY OF ADMISSIONS, WITH PAROLE VIOLATIONS ACCOUNTING FOR MOST OTHER INCARCERATIONS. RELEASES FOR 1972 TOTALED 2,170, INCREASING TO 2,416 IN 1976. OF THE 1976 RELEASES, 1,287 WERE PAROLED, 1,287 WERE PAROLED, 125 COMPLETED THEIR SENTENCES, 66 ESCAPED, 398 WERE RELEASED BY COURT ORDER, 509 WERE RELEASED CONDITIONALLY, 17 DIED, AND 14 WERE RELEASED FOR OTHER REASONS.
