Abstract
SUMMARIES NARRATE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF CHIEF JUSTICE HUGHES DURING HIS TENURE, DECEMBER 18, 1973 THROUGH AUGUST 9, 1979. INNOVATIVE PROGRAMS AND RECENT DEVELOPMENTS ARE DESCRIBED IN THE AREAS OF JUDICIAL PERFORMANCE EVALUATION, MATRIMONIAL LITIGATION, ATTORNEY DISCIPLINE, TRIAL ATTORNEY CERTIFICATION, ATTORNEY ADVERTISING, AND CAMERA COVERAGE. CONSIDERATION IS GIVEN TO THE COURT UNIFICATION PROJECT, SENTENCING DISPARITY RESEARCH, JUDICIAL EDUCATION, JURY MANAGEMENT, PROBATION AND STATISTICAL SERVICES, AND MANAGEMENT SERVICES. AN ORGANIZATIONAL CHART DEPICTS THE COURT SYSTEMS, AND CHARTS AND GRAPHIC INFORMATION ILLUSTRATE CASELOAD TRENDS AND THE COSTS OF OPERATING THE COURTS. PHOTOGRAPHIC AND NARRATIVE COVERAGE PROVIDE INFORMATION ON SUPREME COURT COMMITTEES AND FEDERAL COURTS IN THE STATE. RECOMMENDATIONS ARE MADE FOR CONTINUING REFORMS TO ASSURE AND IMPROVE EFFICIENT AND ECONOMICAL JUDICIAL SERVICE FOR THE PUBLIC. THE STATISTICAL DIGEST SUMMARIZES CASELOAD ACTIVITY IN EACH COURT FOR THE 1978-79 YEAR, AND DRAWS CONCLUSIONS FOR THE VARIOUS COURT LEVELS. (WJR)
