LESSON PLANS ARE OUTLINED FOR INSTRUCTORS CONDUCTING COURSES THAT ASSIST MONITORS OF CITIZENS BAND RADIO (CB) TO BE ABLE TO RESPOND ACCURATELY AND IMMEDIATELY TO EMERGENCY SITUATIONS.
Abstract
TO BE COVERED IN A SINGLE 2-HOUR CLASSROOM SESSION, THIS COURSE REFERS TO A 30-MINUTE TRAINING FILM AND ENCOURAGES CLASS PARTICIPATION IN DISCUSSION. THE COURSE REFERS IN PARTICULAR TO THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY AID RADIO (NEAR) PROGRAM, WHICH INVOLVES VARYING LEVELS OF MONITOR TRAINEES--FROM HIGHLY TRAINED PROFESSIONAL PUBLIC SAFETY PERSONNEL TO AVERAGE CITIZENS WITH NO SPECIFIC EMERGENCY RESPONSE TRAINING. THIS INSTRUCTOR'S GUIDE PROVIDES INFORMATION ON INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATIONS AND ON TRAINING RESOURCES SUCH AS FACILITIES, EQUIPMENT, AND MATERIALS. LESSON PLANS COVER THE ROLE OF NEAR MONITORS AND THE TOOLS THEY WILL USE (TELEPHONES, TWO-WAY RADIO SERVICES, MONITORS' TECHNIQUES, RECORDING, AND RECORDKEEPING. ALSO CONSIDERED IN THE PLANS ARE FIVE COMMON TYPES OF EMERGENCY CALLS RELATED TO HIGHWAY TRAVEL: HIGHWAY ACCIDENTS, MEDICAL EMERGENCIES, DISABLED VEHICLES, CARELESS OR RECKLESS DRIVERS, AND TRAVELER ASSISTANCE. A REVIEW OF BASIC FCC RULES GOVERNING CHANNEL 9 IS COVERED. EACH LESSON PLAN PROVIDES QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION WITH INSTRUCTOR GUIDELINES FOR RESPONSES. A DIAGRAM OF THE CHANNEL 9 EMERGENCY PROCESS IS INCLUDED.
