A THREE-PHASE METROPOLITAN AREA STUDY FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF A 911 EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SYSTEM IN THE MINNEAPOLIS METROPOLITAN AREA, MINN., IS DESCRIBED, BASED ON A PRELIMINARY DATA COLLECTION AND PLAN DEVELOPMENT STUDY.
Abstract
PREPARED BY A LOCAL FIRM OF CONSULTING ENGINEERS FOR SUBMISSION TO THE MINNEAPOLIS METROPOLITAN COUNCIL, THIS (1974) FINAL REPORT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION PLANS FOR A 911 EMERGENCY TELEPHONE SYSTEM ANALYZES THREE OPTIONS FOR 911 CONSIDERATION WITHIN THE METROPOLITAN AREA. THE THREE OPTIONS ARE SIMPLE 911 WITH SELECTIVE ROUTING BY COUNTY, SIMPLE 911 WITH SELECTIVE ROUTING BY COUNTY AND SELECTED MUNICIPALITIES, OR EXPANDED 911. ADVANTAGES, DISADVANTAGES, AND PROJECTED COSTS ARE LISTED FOR EACH OPTION. FOUR CONFIGURATIONS ARE THEN DESCRIBED FOR THE 911 SYSTEM WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE THIRD OPTION (EXPANDED 911), FOLLOWED BY A DISCUSSION OF MAJOR ISSUES FOR IMPLEMENTATION, TIMETABLE, AND STRATEGY. MAPS AND AN IMPLEMENTATION TIMETABLE ARE INCLUDED. APPROXIMATELY 50 REFERENCES ARE PROVIDED.
