THE PURPOSE OF THE MANAGEMENT INSTITUTES SPONSORED BY THE COMMITTEE ON THE OFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF ATTORNEYS GENERAL IS TO PROVIDE STAFF MEMBERS RESPONSIBLE FOR OFFICE MANAGEMENT WITH AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE IDEAS AND INFORMATION, AND TO LEARN ABOUT NEW MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES. THE 1980 INSTITUTE FOCUSED ON WORD-PROCESSING AND DATA-PROCESSING ACTIVITIES AND INCLUDED PRESENTATIONS ON THE FOLLOWING TOPICS; THE STATUS OF AUTOMATION IN ATTORNEYS GENERAL'S OFFICES; THE EXPERIENCES OF FOUR DIFFERENT OFFICES IN DESIGNING, IMPLEMENTING, AND OPERATING DOCKET CONTROL AND WORDPROCESSING SYSTEMS; THE PROSECUTORS MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (PROMIS) APPROACH TO CASELOAD MANAGEMENT; AUTOMATED LEGAL RESEARCH AND LITIGATION SUPPORT; AND BASIC CONSIDERATIONS IN AUTOMATING THE OFFICE. OTHER PAPERS DEALT WITH CHANGE MANAGEMENT, HUMAN FACTORS IN THE PROCESS OF CHANGE, MOTIVATION AND MANAGEMENT EFFECTIVENESS, AND THE STRUCTURE OF THE PLANNING PROCESS. ALSO INCLUDED WERE THE FOLLOWING PRESENTATIONS ON SPECIAL PROBLEMS IN ATTORNEYS' GENERAL'S OFFICES: WORKLOAD MEASUREMENT AND TIME REPORTING, TIME REPORTING AND BILLING, COMMUNICATIONS AND PUBLIC INFORMATION PROGRAMS, THE DYNAMICS OF BUDGET DEVELOPMENT ANDFISCAL MANAGEMENT, AND ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE LAW OFFICE MANAGER. IN ADDITION TO SUMMARIES OF THESE PRESENTATIONS, THE PROCEEDINGS REPORT INCLUDES NOTES ON SPECKERS AND A LIST OF INSTITUTE PARTICIPANTS.
