Abstract
LEFLORE COUNTY YOUTH SERVICES, INC., IS A NON-PROFIT CORPORATION CREATED TO DIVERT OFFENDERS FROM JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEMS AND TO PREVENT AND CONTROL JUVENILE DELINQUENCY. ITS ACTIVITIES INCLUDE (1) PROVIDING EMERGENCY SHELTER CARE (IN LIEU OF JAIL) FOR YOUTHS WHO NEED TO BE DETAINED; (2) RECEIVING REFERRALS FROM THE COMMUNITY FOR YOUTHS IN DIFFICULTIES; (3) MAKING REFERRALS TO COMMUNITY SERVICE AGENCIES AND PROVIDING FOLLOW-UP SERVICES; (4) TRAINING VOLUNTEERS; (5) IDENTIFYING GAPS IN EXISTING COMMUNITY SERVICES; (6) WORKING WITH SCHOOLS TO DEAL WITH TRUANCY AND RACIAL CONFLICTS; (7) PROVIDING INTAKE, DIAGNOSIS, AND CASE SUPERVISION SERVICES AT THE REQUEST OF THE COURT; AND (8) PROVIDING CRISIS INTERVENTION AND COUNSELING. JOB DESCRIPTIONS AND REGULATIONS FOR ALL PERSONNEL ARE PROVIDED. A SECTION ON OPERATIONS CONTAINS POLICIES FOR THE EMERGENCY SHELTER IN THE AREAS OF INTAKE, RELEASE, DISCIPLINE, HANDLING RUNAWAYS, DEALING WITH INJURY OR ILLNESS, ROUTINE FUNCTIONS, COUNSELING, AND STAFF MEETINGS.
