For each task, a set of guidelines is provided to reduce task description time during classroom instruction. Instructors are encouraged to permit students to act out situations. Functions include intervention in traffic situations, gathering information about individuals' identity, writing and serving tickets, arrest and transport of suspects in custody, behavior at the scene of a capital crime, handling suspected explosives, measuring suspects' blood alcohol levels, treatment of unauthorized drivers, handling severe train accidents and warning trains about obstacles, dealing with airplane accidents and search operations after plane crashes, and removal of obstacles to air traffic at military air bases. Also discussed are measures to be taken at the scenes of traffic accidents, oil spills, fires, explosives caches, and upon discovery or loss of radioactive materials. Police action during intervention against diplomats or political leaders or during invasion by foreign troops is outlined. In addition, the book teaches how to perform speedometer checks, collect warning fines, and accompany heavy transport vehicles. Principles for police action in hostage situations are provided, with notes on the characteristics, methods, and behavior of terrorists.
