Abstract
A historical overview of terrorism is presented, noting its function in the french 'reign of terror' (1793-94), and its 20th century manifestation as a stratey to redress a gamut of often unrelated grievances, ranging from religious and ethnic issues to the furtherance of world revolution. A profile of terrorists, compiled from data on 350 terrorists active from 1966 to 1976, is discussed. Over 29 footnotes are included.
