The conference's purpose was to familiarize all attendees with recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions dealing with the law of confessions, right to counsel, and search and seizure. Other program topics were arrest, entrapment, wiretapping, and jurisdiction. A secondary purpose of the conference was to further establish or continue the ongoing liaison between Federal and State law enforcement agencies. Eight papers were presented by the Assistant U.S. Attorneys of the States eastern district, published as a conference handbook, and presented to those attending. Discussions and question and answer periods followed each presentation. An evaluation sheet mailed to 264 of those attending the conference asked about the best days to hold a conference, whether judges and lawyers should also attend such a conference, topics most valuable and least valuable to those attending, and comments on the conference. Responses indicated that the topics which should be allotted the most discussion are arrest, search and seizure, confessions, and right to counsel. Most of those attending felt that it would be extremely beneficial to have lawyers and judges at the conference. The majority of comments on the conference were favorable. One table is included.
