Lawsuits initiated by the Kansas Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division in 1979 are summarized with monetary outcomes indicated.
Abstract
For the first time, the Consumer Protection Division exceeded $1 million in recoveries and savings to Kansas consumers. The distribution of information and education for the benefit of consumers included lectures by division personnel, the general distribution of a continually revised booklet describing typical schemes to exploit comsumers, and the inclusion of a consumer information column in many local newspapers. To meet the increasing need for consumer protection in the growing fields of solar energy and wind power, a member of the division was briefed by the Federal Department of Energy's Solar Energy Research Institute, along with consumer representatives from other states. The division has fielded about 34,000 calls during 1979. assistance was requested in over 34 different subject areas, with major areas being cars, mail orders, and collection agencies.
