Data represent compilations from Uniform Crime Reporting records, court and corrections reports, and probation and parole records. During 1979, 21,942 offenses were confirmed by law enforcement agencies in the State, representing a 15.2 percent increase over last year's figure. Larceny was the most frequently occurring of the eight index offenses surveyed, and the numbers of murders and nonnegligent manslaughters showed dramatic increases in 1979. Also illustrated are clearance data for each of the index offenses; victim, offender, and situational characteristics for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter; index offenses by weapons use, victim characteristics, and value of property stolen; and index offense arrests and characteristics of arrestees. Most clearances for all offenses other than arson involved adults, most homicides involved only one victim and one offender, and a large percentage of offenders were between the ages of 41 and 50. Also, tables show caseload summaries for each State district court, and graphs present filing by district. An overview of the inmate population served for each of Wyoming's correctional institutions is given, and tables show the percentages of persons under supervision (probation and parole) according to age, sex, race, religion, education, monthly income, marital status, and other factors.
