This sound-slide audiovisual program explains the mean and point estimate of a distribution and introduces the 98 percent confidence interval and its application. Mean and standard deviation, limits of the 98 percent interval, and estimation of the parameters of the binomial distribution are discussed.
Abstract
The concept of confidence intervals is introduced, followed by examples, problems, and solution frames. The major topics considered in the program are (1) x-bar distribution, (2) point estimates, (3) interval estimates, (4) the distribution of sample means, (5) the 95 percent confidence interval, (6) the 98 percent confidence interval, (7) determination of the confidence interval, and (8) confidence intervals for the parameters of the binomial distribution. The frame number on which each topic begins is provided. In addition, a worksheet has been included with the program to give students more experience with the types of problems discussed. The worksheet may be duplicated for use along with the program; answers to the problems are included in the Teacher's guide. Instructions for presentation and a script are also included.
