Information about the activities of the National Legal Data Center (NLDC), Inc., during the reporting period of October 1, 1977, through January 31, 1978, is contained in this volume.
Abstract
NLDC serves as the clearinghouse for the exchange of information on the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration's (LEAA's) Career Criminal Program and on related legal issues and problems. NLDC is responsible for collecting project data from each of the LEAA Career Criminal-funded projects, analyzing this information and making it available for evaluation and replication purposes. During the reporting period, NLDC staff members made 11 onsite assessment trips to jursidictions interested in the Comprehensive Career Criminal Program. Locally funded programs now total 13. The report notes that for particular crime categories, data indicates that the reduction in crime rates in the Career Criminal cities was significantly higher than the reductions respectively experienced by U.S. cities generally. Specifically, the crime rate reductions in the 17 Career Criminal cities exceeded the national average decreases by 44 percent in robberies, 22 percent in burglaries, and 31 percent in all Index crimes. The report also presents information on the reporting party, due date, execution, reporting requirements, the attainment of stated goals, results relating to special condition compliance and time tables, and other administrative matters. Tables are included. An overview of the Career Criminal Program, a copy of a periodic newsletter, and a workshop agenda are appended.
