This directory for New York State prison inmates lists and describes legal aid organizations for inmates or ex-offenders and all free legal aid societies and social service organizations in New York City and State.
Abstract
The names, addresses, contacts, and specialties are provided for 10 New York public and private organizations serving prison inmates or ex-offenders exclusively. The Prisoners' Legal Services of New York, a public agency helping State prisoners with postconviction legal problems, is included, and offices serving the various State prisons are listed. Other organizations listed serve New York City prisoners, alleged parole violators, or women prisoners on a variety of issues. A list of 14 legal organizations serving the general public as well as prisoners includes the American Civil Liberties Union and others serving minorities, the elderly poor, and youth. A list of free legal and social services in New York City and State includes public defender offices and organizations providing counseling, referral, and support (usually not legal) services to prisoners, ex-offenders, and their families.
