This 1979 Uniform Crime Report for Idaho presents and analyzes statistics and trends for serious crimes, such as murder, rape, and motor vehicle theft, and provides arrest data and law enforcement personnel data.
Abstract
The crimes discussed include rape, murder, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. During 1979, 38,375 of these crimes were reported, an increase of about 9 percent over 1978. A total of 2,613 violent and 35,762 nonviolent crimes were reported, violent crimes increasing 26 percent over 1978. A total of 76 percent of violent crimes were aggravated assaults, and 66 percent of nonviolent crimes were larcenies. Stolen goods amounted to about $17 million, and about 45 percent of this value was recovered. Murders totaled 49, a 4 percent increase over 1978; murders tended to be committed by males age 22 to 27. A total of 47 of the victims and 93 percent of the arrested suspects were white. Rape reports increased 10 percent in 1979 over 1978, totaled 186, and had a clearance rate of 62 percent. Rapists, like murderers, tended to be white and in their twenties. Reported robberies totaled 392, a 12 percent increase over 1978, and had a clearance rate of 39 percent. a total of 92 percent of all persons arrested for robbery were male and 34 percent were under age 18. Idaho averaged 2 law enforcement officers per 1,000 persons (in 1979), numbers of personnel are provided for county sheriff's departments, police departments, and the State police. Tabular data illustrate Part 1 offenses by county and by agency. Charts, graphs, and tables form the bulk of the report.
