Public and private agencies working with youth can use these materials to increase awareness of the needs of status offenders and to develop services for this group. In the slides and synchronized tape cassette, status offenders, mothers, youth workers, volunteer leaders, coordinators, and a judge describe their involvement with community-based projects for status offenders. Funded by the LEAA, these highly successful projects were conducted in Arizona, Washington, California, South Carolina, and Connecticut. Besides a definition of the status offender problem and a review of the efforts of the NCJJPC, the guide offers specific suggestions on organizing for the slide-cassette presentation and covers the selection of appropriate audiences, goals for the meeting, and technical advice. Answers to classic objections to status offender services are discussed. Followup interviews of participants are recommended. The appendixes contain a glossary and lists of resource persons in State agencies, State advisory groups, and national organizations. Other materials available from the NJJCP and a transcript of the slide-tape presentation are included.
