A summary is provided of the legal responsibilities of each division and board within the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection.
Abstract
The primary responsbilities of the Department of Consumer Protection involve the enforcement of State laws designed to protect the consumer from injury by product use of merchandising deceit. Regular inspections are conducted of wholesale and retail food establishments, drug stores, and other commercial establishments using weighing and measuring devices. Also, investigations are conducted into alleged fraudulent activities; responses are made to consumer complaints; licenses are reviewed and issued; and information and referral services are provided. Consumer protection activities are described in detail for each of the following divisions: Athletic, Drug Control, Consumer Education, Food, Consumer Frauds, and Registration. Other activities of regulatory boards and commissions are described for the following groups: accountants, architects, landscape architects, occupational licensing, pharmacies, professional engineers and land surveyors, television and radio service examiners, tree examiners, and veterinarians. Also, the extensive responsibilities of the various licensing, investigating, and securities divisions of the Real Estate Commission are detailed. Lastly, a brief description of the activities of the Office of Protection and Advocacy for Handicapped and Developmentally Disabled Persons is provided.
