A 27-item form for assessing campus police performance is expanded and modified to measure Georgia correctional officer performance.
Abstract
The 43-item form was developed through use of the Delphi decisionmaking technique. The self-rating scale, with a reliability coefficient of .995 (n=120) was subjected to factor analysis and varimax rotation and was found to yield two primary factors accounting for 82 percent and 2.5 percent of the variance respectively. Factor one was labeled 'general job responsibilities and factor two was entitled 'communications facilitation.' Two supervisor ratings were also solicited. Correlations between self-ratings and supervisor-ratings were negligible. Several hypotheses are advanced to account for the lack of convergence, including lack of controls within correctional institutions for completing ratings forms and other institutional differences. In general, however, the preliminary analyses of the rating form are encouraging. References and tabular data are provided. (ERIC abstract modified)
