The lesson teaches the officer to identify the elements of the statutes relating to child abuse and injury and corporal injury to the child, to describe and illustrate ways in which the legislative concern for the spouse relationship is shown by statute, to describe the common initial enforcement procedure followed in Penal Code (PC) 273g cases and the legal basis for such action, and to identify essential differences between child stealing and kidnapping. It also teaches the officer to identify the elements of the corpus delicti for PC 278 and 279 crimes and to match the PC numbers of crimes described in the lesson with descriptive phrases or words commonly related to those crimes.
