The functions of the commission include reviews of statutory law, common law, and judicial decisions, with a view to its systematic development and reform, including codification, elimination of anomalies, repeal of obsolete and unnecessary enactments, and reduction in the number of separate enactments. Several projects initiated in 1974 are discussed. The law relating to the distribution of matrimonial property, with a view to making recommendations for change is discussed, as well as a research project on family law covering family maintenance, children's rights and maintenance, and marriage laws. Findings of studies on the law affecting consensual personal property security transactions and consumer credit laws are reported. Also discussed is Provincial legislation regarding offenses that have quasi-criminal penalties or sanctions attached. Other projects reviewed involve conflict of interest and occupier's liability. Research on such areas needing reform as medical-legal matters, criminal conversation, the wills act, and registration of contracts is examined. Contacts with other organizations (i.e., the Saskatchewan Law Foundation) to ensure funding of the projects are also reported. Personnel of the commission and its offices are described, and the text of the act to establish the commission is included.
