The accomplishments and activities of the Governor's Organized Crime Prevention Commission, directed at preventing the infiltration and operation of organized crime in New Mexico, are described for fiscal year 1979-80.
Abstract
The commission focused on a number of traditional organized criminal markets and enterprises. Its report describes activities in the areas of training of organized crime investigators, public hearings held before the commission, public educational and awareness programs, and cooperative assistance investigations with other law enforcement agencies. Specific agency investigations into the areas of prostitution, gambling especially illegal casino operations, bookmaking, and bingo - pornography, the specialty foods industry, labor racketeering, and the private carting and waste removal industry are detailed. An overall increase in organized crime's interest and activity in the State is noted and additional resources are requested to continue the agency's task of organized crime prevention.
