The activities of the Australian Criminology Research Council during its sixth year of activity in funding criminal justice research projects are described.
Abstract
The Criminology Research Fund administered by the Council received $63,700 during the year, up from $16,300 in the previous year. The Council funded 12 research projects covering topics such as public attitudes to various types of criminal behavior, recidivism, forensics, juvenile delinquency, and rape in marriage. It received five research reports and terminated two projects. A total of 17 projects covering subjects such as sentencing, juvenile offenders, and psychosociological topics were in progress at the end of the year. Other projects focused on multiproblem families, gun ownership in Australia, prison administration in New South Wales, community treatment programs for delinquent youths, police recruitment and retention, and ways to avoid delays in magistrates' courts. Previously completed reports focused on delinquency in planned urban areas, robbery prevention and detection, institutional staff training procedures, and other subjects. Tabular data are included.
