This directory of Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime (TASC) programs lists and describes TASC community-based treatment programs for reducing recidivism and crime related to substance abuse.
Abstract
The directory was compiled to supplement the 1979-1980 edition of the 'Directory of Pretrial Services,' which lists programs involving pretrial release, pretrial diversion, mediation, and arbitration. Together, the directories afford an overview of alternative programs that provide pretrial and substance abuse services. Included in this directory are also a few former TASC programs which, when adopted locally, were required to perform various other functions. Programs are listed alphabetically by State and by city, or town within each State. For each program, an initial section provides information on the program's nature, budget, staffing, interagency cooperation, authorization, and locus. Another section covers clients served, people excluded from participation, specific requirements for admission, and methods used for intake and assessment. Monitoring practices, evaluation criteria, and warning mechanisms and grounds for client termination are also presented. A final section presents statistical data on the numbers of program clients and outcomes. Program locations are identified on a national map.
