Abstract
An introduction explains that recent studies have shown that job-related stress kills more police officers each year than do criminals. Stress factors include concern about court leniency toward criminals, public apathy, lack of adequate equipment, red tape, paperwork, irregular work hours, and outdated promotional policies. Many police departments have started counseling programs to help officers and their families, and these programs have taken various forms, including the location of counselors away from station houses so that sessions may remain entirely confidential. These materials are intended to inspire new counseling programs and research in this area. The materials were published between 1970 and 1980. Items are listed alphabetically by author. Annotations are not included.
