This 1980 annual report summarizes the major activites and accomplishments of the Florida Council on Criminal Justice, as discharged by the Bureau of Criminal Justice Assistance (BCJA), which provides staff support to the council in its efforts to approve applications for Federal Funds and improve the criminal justice system.
Abstract
It provides a descriptive analysis of funding awards made in 1980. Awards are categorized in terms of funding source (block, discretionary, Juvenile Justice, etc.) program area (law enforcement, courts, corrections, etc.), and jurisdiction (local, State). The report also focuses on special project activities undertaken by BCJA in 1980, including Technical Assistance projects and evaluation and policy/issue analysis functions. Also discussed are efforts to expand the Integrated Criminal Apprehension Program in Florida, a special jail assessment study, and an emergency dispatchers standards/training development effort. Also, three BCJA projects which serve to improve coordination of specific types of local projects in Florida are reviewed. For example, staff support is being given to a Treatment Alternatives to Street Crime project, the Florida Network of Victim/Witness Services, and a Crimes Against the Elderly project. Finally, a brief summary is provided of the major activities undertaken by projects that ended during calendar year 1980. Charts, graphs, and tables are included. (Author abstract modified)
