Abstract
The references cover areas such as alternatives involving some incarceration (short sentences with programming, shock probation, and work release); community involvement, including community-based corrections, monetary restitution, symbolic restitution, home arrest, and residential programs; special treatment programs, such as chemical dependency, therapeutic communities, and probationed offenders rehabilitation and training programs; and fines. Within each subject area the approximately 475 entries are arranged alphabetically by author and include the publication's title and date and journal title and number if applicable. Charts showing legislation relating to alternative programs in the 50 States are appended. A list of periodicals and an author index are supplied.
