Abstract
The bureau is housed within the Division of Law Enforcement in the State's Department of Justice. Its objective is to bring its statewide jurisdictional capabilities and expertise to bear upon the complex problems caused by multijurisdictional narcotic dealers, clandestine drug manufacturers, and dispensing violators in the medical and pharmaceutical professions. This is accomplished through major investigations; coordination of local narcotic enforcement resources; monitoring and investigation of professionals licensed to dispense drugs; and research, analysis, and training. Included in this report are annual statistics, information on special operations, buy-program activities, and task-force and area-agent efforts. Highlighted are the arrest of 2,269 drug violators (up 40 percent from the previous year), controlled substance seizures of 26,664,798 grams (up 365 percent), and the seizure of $4,331,876 in cash and $621,000 in property. In addition, 15 new agent positions were added; and two narcotic task forces were implemented. Maps, data tables, and charts are included.
