The film illustrates both the challenge for cause and the peremptory challenge. The film shows the dismissal of several jurors based on their prior knowledge of one of the attorneys in the case; their discussion of the case with someone who allegedly knew the facts of the case; and their contact with the deceased proprietor of the Big Ten Party and Beverage House in Ann Arbor, Mich., who was allegedly robbed and murdered by the defendant. In addition, the judge is shown ruling against the sequestering of the jury and cautioning jury members not to discuss the case with each other until the conclusion of the trial.
