The division is organized into three major units: the Office of Planning and Program Assistance, the Bureau of Identification and Information Services, and the Office of Special Services. During 1976 one agency-funded project, the New York City Anticrime Patrol, was recognized by LEAA as an Exemplary Project for its outstanding success in reducing street crime through the use of undercover decoy teams in high crime areas. The decoy teams used many forms of sophisticated communications equipment in connection with arrests which resulted in a 95 percent conviction rate. Another major activity was the Family Court Monitoring Project, in which citizen volunteers observed and reported on juvenile processing, providing information for a statewide report for improving the family court's operations. Resources were also committed to protect senior citizens from crimes committed by juveniles as well as from victimization in general. Activities in the areas of grant management, program evaluation, fingerprint processing, statistical analysis, training, highway safety, police administration, and other areas of technical assistance are also reported.
