This sound-slide training unit was developed for use as an introductory presentation in courses designed to teach citizens the correct and effective use of tear gas.
Abstract
The information is presented in such a way as to keynote the points to be covered in the subsequent lectures. Discussion covers the effects and limitations of aerosol tear gas, types of handheld tear gas units, selection of a unit, storage and safety, identification of personal danger zones, how and when to carry a unit, how to use a tear gas unit, how to spray an attacker, and periodic testing and disposal of a unit. The final lecture explains decontamination of affected persons. Several types and models of handheld units are presented and care is taken not to endorse or feature any specific product. The lecture content will encourage students to ask questions during the followup lecture and demonstration. The kit includes 30 color slides and a cassette tape. (Author abstract modified)
