The chapter on private security and the law includes discussions of the use of force, search of a person, search warrant and seizure, and prosecution. The roles of the various categories of Canadian police forces, including private police forces (national harbor and port police and railway police forces) are described, with consideration of the work of security guards. The major section on the tasks of security guards contains chapters that discuss the role and functions of a security guard, the attitude and deportment of a qualified security guard, orders, and techniques of communication. The section on security considers hazards to security (criminal threats, scene of the crime, natural hazards, hazards caused by the environment, espionage, unforeseen hazards, and emergency measures); protective detecting, and alarm systems; and fire prevention and fire fighting. The section that discusses 'particular situations' focuses on carrying and use of firearms, the security guard and labor unrest, first aid, and special tasks.
