The report presents the results of a crime prevention survey completed by 28 Virginia law enforcement agencies with the intent of gathering resource information to assist in the development of crime prevention program guides. The guides will deal with the Operation Identification, Neighborhood Watch, and Security Surveys programs.
Abstract
Most of the respondents provided all three programs: 92 percent had established a Neighborhood Watch program, 83 percent had established Operation Identification, and 96 percent used security surveys. The most important finding of the survey is that most departments are keeping minimal or no records of their crime prevention activities. Those who were maintaining data were not conducting evaluations, except in one case. A list of participating agencies and sample surveys are appended.
