Abstract
A total of 16 murders and manslaughters (excluding deaths due to driving) came to police attention during the 12 months ended June 30, 1981. At 1.23 per 100,000 population, South Australia's homicide rate ranks among the lowest in the world. The police recorded 23 armed robberies during the quarter and 106 for the year ended June 30, 1981. The rate of imprisonment continued to increase, and the number of motor vehicle thefts reported to police during the quarter ended June 30, 1981, was the lowest quarterly total in 3 years. The report includes a brief discussion of factors which may have influenced the reporting of rape in recent years. Most of the report consists of statistical data tables. (Author abstract modified)
