Protecting proprietary rights in computer software is a complex and little understood area. Every data center should be aware of its obligations to protect the software of others which it uses under license.
Abstract
This paper presents a summary of the various legal methods which might be used in protecting software: patents, copyrights, trade secrets, trademarks, unfair competition, and contractual protection. Ways in which protection can be lost and precautions that should be taken are covered. (Publisher's abstract)
