Model ordinances for Oakland, Calif., deal with commercial burglary security, private dwelling security, and multiple-dwelling security, and a model burglary security code is presented.
Abstract
The purpose of the model burglary security code is to provide minimum standards to safeguard property and public welfare by regulating and controlling the design, construction, quality of materials, use and occupancy, location, and maintenance of all buildings and structures within a city and certain equipment specifically regulated. The sections cover development of the code, scope, applications to existing buildings, alternate materials and methods of construction, tests, enforcement, responsibility for security, violations and penalties, and appeals. The model ordinance for minimum standards relating to commercial burglary security covers the securing of exterior doors, glass windows, accessible transoms, roof openings, special security measures, intrusion detection devices, and exceptions. The minimum standards for private dwelling security deal with exterior doors, sliding patio doors, and window protection. Minimum standards for multiple-dwelling security deal with exterior doors, garage doors, swinging doors, sliding patio doors, and window protection.
