This manual presents the forms and reporting procedures to be used in the Montana Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program.
Abstract
The program provides information both for developing national crime trends and for helping the contributing agencies by giving them management information, minimizing the amount of work required to report basic State and Federal UCR data, and providing for additional reporting capabilities to reduce the amount of manual data compilation done in most agencies. The Montana UCR system uses two basic forms -- an offense and activity form and a custody form -- as well as supplemental forms to accomplish all the reporting necessary to satisfy national and State UCR requirements. The offense and activity form provides a record of total criminal offenses, associated property and values, offense clearances, and other related police activities. The custody form provides a record of total arrests for criminal acts in all of the Part I and Part II offenses and furnishes basic data concerning the personal characteristics of the persons arrested or handled by police. Supplementary forms are used for homicides, assaults or killings of law enforcement officers, and the number of full-time law enforcement employees. Sample forms, definitions, codes, and a discussion of the interpretation and use of Montana UCR reports are provided.
