A representative from Project New Pride in Denver and from the technical assistance project discuss plans for a national conference on juvenile justice issues and describe the contents of the New Pride program activities kit.
Abstract
Participants are urged to begin developing an agenda of activities/issues to be addressed at the national conference. Possible committees that could be formed involve alternative education, diagnostic services, employment, and technical assistance. The program activities kit includes an individual curriculum guide. The subject areas taught by New Pride are similar to those taught in regular public schools but are more life-skills-oriented. Classroom materials are inexpensive. The kit also contains a teacher's guide, a student's protocol for informal assessment, and a diagnostic assessment tool (including a supplemental speech language battery and other tests). Audience discussion concerns New Pride operating procedures, integration of New Pride students into the public school system, and treatment plans.
