The community corrections field currently contains no unnecessary duplication. Although some overlapping exists in certain areas, the present agencies are not able to meet the needs of ex-offenders. Moreover, although many agencies share similar goals in the corrections field, they use different approaches to attain these goals. Services in the area of living accommodations should include appropriate temporary postprison accommodation, support for more temporary residential centers providing such services as life skills counseling, and services to help ex-offenders obtain long-term accommodation. Employment-related programs should include employment preparation programs, sheltered workshops, and employment placement programs. Existing drug and alcohol programs can handle most ex-offenders, except the hardest drug addicts. A literature review, a discussion of the United Way and its relationship to social planning, charts, data tables, and 17 references are included. Appendixes list community corrections agencies and programs in the Calgary area and present the study instrument.
