Abstract
It also includes statistics on the number of officers killed and assaulted and law enforcement employee data. The number of Index offenses increased 19 percent over 1977, with larceny-theft accounting for 68 percent of the total crime index. Tables and graphs form the bulk of the report. They describe offenders and victims by age, sex, and race and note the value of property stolen and recovered.
