In addition to brief descriptions of each of the 43 Federal correctional facilities, this booklet describes the operations of the central and regional offices of the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the staff training centers.
Abstract
The security level of each institution is rated with a number from 1 to 6, with level 1 being the least secure and level 6 being the most secure. Administrative facilities, which have several or all levels of security are designated with an 'A.' Descriptions of each institution generally include a brief history of the institution, the type and capacity of housing provided, the programs and services offered, the nature of the staff, and whether or not the facility is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections. The address and telephone number of each institution are provided. The central office of the Federal Bureau of Prisons is responsible for the control and coordination of all the activities of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, including planning, policy development, management of manpower and other resources, budget development, monitoring the quality of programs and services, and coordinating the activities of the regional offices and institutions. The regional office staff offers management and technical assistance to institution and community programs personnel, and staff training centers are intended to ensure a uniformly high quality of training for Bureau of Prisons staff. Also included in the booklet are a map of the United States showing the location of each facility, a list of the locations of the various types of facilities, and an organization chart of the Bureau of Prisons.
