Abstract
Speakers included the Commissioner of the State's Department of Corrections, the Director of the Division of Criminal Justice, the Chairman of the State Parole Board, and representatives of such groups as wardens, court administrators, public defenders, county government, and State and national councils on crime and delinquency. Speakers discussed the effect of the State's new criminal code, the effect of the Parole Act of 1980, and the speedy trial system. Other topics included the use of county jails for State prisoners, double-celling, pretrial release, alternatives to incarceration, probation and parole, pretrial intervention as a noncustodial alternative for the least dangerous offenders, and minimum mandatory sentences.
