Group hypnosis can be used to uncover deep seated traumas in delinquent females, particularly those who have suffered rejection or some form of 'branding' by their families.
Abstract
The author discusses various theoretical models of adolescence and suggests that in delinquent girls the normal adolescent task of forming a sense of identity followed by intimacy is reversed: they jump the stage of identity to intimacy, hoping to overcome their family's rejection and find themselves by having relationships. Hypnosis can uncover the core problem. It provides an adult and peers who can be empathetic and assist in the healing process. The delinquent girl can then begin to form the nucleus of an identity, which prevents headlong rush into the dangers of boy 'friends' and allows her the prestige of choosing a boyfriend.
