The statistical analysis is based on the following totals for the year: 240,710 criminal acts involving police intervention, 2,140 complaints and quarrels, and 24,856 sentenced convictions. Criminal acts with police intervention are reported according to headings of the penal code, by jurisdiction and for female offenders. The complaints and quarrels represent cases brought before tribunals of the peace without police intervention. Tables on sentenced convictions are shown by jurisdiction, for females, for juveniles, and by prior record. Statistical summaries are also presented for each Province of the country. Data in these sections delineate crime types, sentence types, offender characteristics, criminal motivation, and duration of the criminal process. The bulk of the document is in tabular form.
