This article discusses some of the theoretical and practical considerations involved in the physical comparison (matching) of torn and perforated documents.
Abstract
It demonstrates the accurate reconstruction of torn, perforated, and cut documents and discusses the potential significance of each characteristic exhibited by most paper separations, such as physical dimensions, paper type, irregular tears, perforations, fiber continuity, etc. Four test cases are presented to evaluate a practical basis for positive physical matches. Two references and photographs are supplied.
